What to make of the news that 3 of the top 5 highest selling lottery retailers are in Sun City? (And Nos. 6 and 7 serve a lot of Sun City residents as well. Of the top 15, 13 are in the west valley. ) Aren't the Social Security checks enough? Are the ex-employers defaulting on the pensions? Are the savings wiped out?

It reminds me of story an ex-professor told me about his time as the HOA-treasurer. He thought it would be an easy job just rolling over the CDs, but at every meeting old timers showed up with pamphlets for gold mines and other investment ideas.

It's also ironic that even though Sun City residents have resisted paying taxes for education, they have wound up paying for it anyway.
