David Brooks serves up another column telling us how the great recession could/should lead to fundamental changes in how Americans view money, possessions, and saving.
This reminds me of how after 9/11 we were told that the attack could/should lead to fundamental changes in American values. Namely, we were to become less materialistic and hurried, and lead slower, more meaningful lives. A writer for the Atlantic, whose name unfortunately I can't remember, said all this was eyewash. He could tell that Americans would continue to lead the same hurried, materialistic lives they had before by the simple observation that we were still building fast food drivethroughs.
What architectural changes would indicate the change that Brooks says is coming?
